A classic restoration with modern sensibility – The Kingswood Bungalow by Taylored Construction
A home that was small, dark and cramped, in the Adelaide suburb of Kingswood, is transformed into an abode filled with light and space for a family to relax, work and entertain in contemporary style.
When Carly and Tim Way decided it was time to renovate and extend their 1925 Bungalow in the Adelaide suburb of Kingswood, they approached Taylored Construction to take on the project.
The Way family purchased the home in 2016 and lived in the property, enduring the various alterations and renovations that had been made over almost 100 years. This helped them determine their design and build goals. They discovered that the layout was restrictive, and each space felt small, dark and closed in.
Throughout the design and build process, Carly and Tim were focused on creating a contemporary home that would accommodate their growing family into the years ahead.
Taylored Construction worked in conjunction with the Way’s to help them achieve their dream home.
The former lounge room became the master bedroom, and the two adjoining bedrooms became the master ensuite and robe.
A study was added to the extended front entrance to support working from home, while the main bathroom was renovated to create an open and contemporary aesthetic.
Numerous masonry alterations within the existing structure in conjunction with nearly 40 metres of boundary demolition made this a challenging yet rewarding build.
“The new extension to the rear of the home was dedicated to open and easy living where the garden, living and study areas could all be viewed from the kitchen – the heart of the home,” explains Colleen Taylor, Project Coordinator from Taylored Construction.
“Natural light was a key factor in the design process and has been achieved with the construction of 3m high ceilings, full-height sliding doors and skylights throughout the home.”
