Overview
Alchemy Apartments is a boutique development featuring 49 contemporary residences located at the edge of the Melbourne CBD. The property lies in a small residual pocket of double-storey heritage houses between Peel Street and Capel Street in North Melbourne.
Interior design approach
“For us, at Hayball, architecture must respond to its context to reinforce a sense of place. Our design process is always rooted in a deep appreciation for, and careful response to the site and its surroundings,” explains the Hayball project team.
“Drawing on the heritage and industrial character of North Melbourne, our design intent was to integrate the new apartments into the existing fine-grained residential fabric and broader neighbourhood context of larger commercial, institutional and multi-residential built forms.
“Our vision for the interiors is about purity of form, executed with a luxurious material palette including black odyssey marble detailing and European oak timber floors. We wanted hardware that was industrial-inspired and durable without compromising design quality.”
Selecting tapware
For Alchemy, Hayball chose Phoenix’s Vivid Slimline Wall Basin Mixer Set Curved, Vivid Slimline Shower / Wall Mixer, Vivid Slimline Sink Mixer Squareline, Pina Twin Shower, Gloss Toilet Roll Holder, Gloss Robe Hook, Gloss Double Towel Rail and Gloss Shower Shelf, which “elevated our minimalist design and enhanced the contemporary luxury feel we were hoping to achieve,” says Hayball.
“We wanted hardware that was industrial-inspired and durable without compromising design quality. Which brought us to Phoenix tapware range – the slimline design and simple form of the products add a layer of understated luxury to the kitchen and bathroom spaces. We also love the fact the Phoenix is a local brand.”
