The Block alumni, Elise and Matt Bothe, recently created a Wellness Room and Outdoor Shower area at their home in Perth. These are tranquil, versatile spaces designed with health, practicality, and low maintenance care in mind and enhance indoor-outdoor living for their active family. Elise chose Phoenix products to add functionality and a beautiful design aesthetic to these spaces.
Elise and Matt Bothe’s journey into building and design began long before their appearance on The Block. Matt started his career as a carpenter at just 16, honing his craft and eventually establishing his own renovation company focused on timber frame homes, decks, and various projects that showcased his expertise. Meanwhile, Elise’s background as a fashion rep sparked a passion for aesthetics, leading her to study interior design. Together, they began renovating their own homes, balancing family life with their commitment to quality and design. Their appearance on The Block in 2019 was a pivotal moment, providing a platform to highlight their teamwork and passion, and connecting them with a broader audience who appreciated their dedication to craftsmanship and design.

With a focus on harmony and balance, Elise and Matt design each space to feel like home, reflecting both the client’s personality and their own. Using natural materials and textures, they bring warmth and character to every room, crafting inviting, livable spaces that feel like a warm embrace.
Elise and Matt’s latest project, their Wellness Room is a tranquil, versatile space designed with health, practicality, and low maintenance in mind. There is a growing trend for Wellness Rooms to be incorporated into new house builds or renovations, as the concept of looking after your health and well being from the convenience of your home is recognised. Blending seamlessly with the alfresco area, Matt and Elise’s area enhances indoor-outdoor living for their active family. The design goal for this area was to complement their outdoor surroundings. Natural stone from CDK Stone adds depth and character, while Beacon Lighting’s warm, adaptable lighting creates a relaxing ambiance. With the addition of a bathroom, the room easily transitions for guest use or future needs, such as an office. Durable, low-maintenance materials ensure it remains a serene, functional retreat for years to come.

Elise chose the Phoenix Brushed Carbon finish to complement the natural aesthetic of this space. The textural, earthen feel of Brushed Carbon creates mood and drama and brings visual excitement to this setting. The Mekko Basin Mixer designed the by Phoenix in-house design team makes a modern, elegant statement. The choice of Nuage accessories including Robe Hooks and Toilet Roll Holders, and the Nuage Shower / Wall Mixer, work perfectly with Mekko, as both have softly curved organic shapes that further enhance the natural aesthetic of the Wellness Room.

Elise loves the technology behind her choice of the Ormond Hand Shower and Shower Rose. The patented* technology used to create the LuxeXP™ spray pattern is widely used in the fuel delivery system for rocket engines and is called a pressure swirl atomiser. These atomisers utilise the energy from the high-pressure water flow to induce a swirling motion, generating centrifugal forces that cause the water to exit the low-profile nozzles in almond-shaped sheets. These then break down into a multitude of water droplets, enveloping the shower user in a soothing cascade, delivering a truly immersive shower experience. Matt enjoys it daily as part of his sauna, cold plunge, and warm shower routine—a little corner of paradise right at home.
