How to design the perfect shower experience
A well-designed shower has the power to take your morning routine from mundane to magnificent. Add in some innovative features and inspired extras and you’ll be able to create an atmosphere that’s ripe for elevating your mood and invigorating your well-being for years to come.
Consider a walk-in shower
Whether you have a small or large bathroom, a walk-in shower is a great option as they are usually frameless, making the room look bigger, as the shower appears like an extension of the room. They’re also extremely contemporary and offer a spa-like aesthetic, which is perfect for creating the perfect showering experience.
If you have the space, consider creating a double shower. Size wise, width is more important than length here, as the shower area needs to be wide enough to accommodate two people showering. There also needs to be room to access the double shower via a central entrance.
However, even if you have a large bathroom, you should err on the side of caution when it comes to going too big – excessively large showers can be uncomfortably chilly. You especially don’t want to create too large a shower because it’ll take longer for the space to fill with steam.

Make it atmospheric with lighting
Having the right lighting in your shower can really change up your showering experience. Whether you want to feel fresh as you start your day or relax before bed, there are a number of lighting options to suit.
Built-in spotlights
Built-in spotlights in the ceiling are the easiest way to illuminate a shower and you can use as little or as many as you like depending on the look and feel you’d like to achieve.
Indirect ceiling lights
Indirect ceiling lights are a growing trend with walk-in showers that have ceiling fitted rain showers. These lights are built into the edges of a false ceiling, similar to a back lit mirror.
Indirect wall lighting
If you have a shower with a built-in recess, this is great spot to install a watertight LED strip, to create a soft lighting experience.
A colourful wall
A great way to introduce a sense of wellness in the shower is to fit a light wall. A light wall is a semi-transparent synthetic panel with an RGBW LED strip at the back. The wall breaks up the light and gives off a pleasant, diffused glow. You can also pick whichever colour best suits your bathroom.

Add a bench or a ledge
To take your showering experience from practical to pampering, consider adding a bench. They’re a great addition that allow you to sit down and enjoy the hot water and steam, as well as making shaving legs a lot easier. If you don’t have space for a bench, add in a small seat.

Include a shower niche
Shower niches are great for storing shampoo, conditioner, body wash and other toiletries. Just make sure you allow for tall bottles to fit, otherwise they’ll still be cluttering your shower floor.
Easy to reach towels.
Place towel hooks or a heated towel rail close enough to your shower so you can easily reach out and grab your towel before stepping completely out of the shower. This will cut down on excessive water dripping all over the bathroom floor and also allows you to wrap up before leaving the warm shower area.

Easy reach to controls help to make for a more enjoyable shower experience. Install the shower controls in a location that’s just outside the shower area or at least out of the direct line of the shower head to avoid being blasted with cold water.
