With an emphasis on textured textiles, organic materials and shapes and rich tones, boho style can be a budget-friendly way to refresh your bathroom without undertaking a full renovation. If you want to bring the boho look into your bathroom, there are a few key things you can add that will immediately help you capture those laid-back vibes.

Use natural materials

The boho look is underpinned by the use of natural materials like sisal, hemp, wood, rattan, and bamboo and there are a number of ways to incorporate these materials – through storage and laundry baskets, or you could even place a woven, lidded bin on the floor to store towels or toilet paper as an alternative to bulkier units. Accessories like makeup mirrors, soap dispenser pumps, and toilet brushes are another great way to bring in natural materials.

Bring in plants

Plants are a key attribute of boho style and in the bathroom not only add aesthetic appeal but can have other benefits – for example, plants improve air quality and can also turn a regular shower into a spa-like experience: simply hang a eucalyptus and lightly crush the leaves to help them release their fragrant oils.

Get vibrant with colours

Colour plays a huge part in bohemian style and while there are no rules, warm earthy colours are most common, as are metallics and jewel tones. Think deep browns, greens, and greys for base colours, combined with purples, oranges, and blue. Combining and layering colours is what makes this style unique. Feel free to mix patterns and textures, and don’t be afraid to use styles that would not necessarily go together in a conventional way.

Tapware, showers, and accessories such as towel rails and robe hooks are a great way to bring in metallics, especially brushed gold which creates warmth and comfort with a splash of luxury.

Create a tile accent wall

More is always more with bohemian style, and that’s all the more reason to opt for an attention-demanding feature wall in your bathroom. An eye-catching pattern cladding the walls is going to accentuate, rather than overpower, the busy yet beautiful space. Clad your walls from floor to ceiling or embellish those smaller spaces with intricate tile designs. Moroccan, geometric, zellige, and subway tiles are just a few of the many that would work.

Go for ambient lighting

Boho lighting is all about layering eclectic elements and unique finds from around the globe. Woven materials, rope, fringe, beads, rustic metals, and even ceramics are common features found in boho light fixtures. To create an ambient feel, decorate with multiple lanterns, candles, and wall sconces.

Opt for open storage

While minimalism is all about keeping clutter out of sight, boho style follows a more open school of thought. Instead of storing your essentials away in a cabinet, put them on display by installing a set of floating shelves. In true boho fashion, combine candles and bud vases along with a larger vase of dried flowers to create a relaxed and welcoming ambiance.
